Philly.com has the scoop:

"It's going up, taking over the apartment that for decades has benefited from the aromas that wafted up not only from Vetri but from such gems as Two Quails, Chanterelles and Ciboulette.

The opening, pegged for May, will also mean Sunday dinner at Vetri, something that the restaurant has not offered in its 15 years.

In addition to being able to host larger parties, Vetri, business partner Jeff Benjamin and chef Adam Leonti want to use the second-floor space as a private dining room with customized menus."

GQ names Pizzeria Vetri one of the best new restaurants in America

By Hashtag on Feb 24 2014 Posted in: Vetri, Osteria, Alla Spina, Amis, Press, 0 comments GQ names Pizzeria Vetri one of the best new restaurants in America

In a new feature for GQ, food critic Alan Richman listed the 25 best new restaurants in America. Pizzeria Vetri made the cut at #25:

"Chef Marc Vetri, famous for a fine-dining restaurant named after him, has created a neo-Neapolitan crust. It looks Neapolitan. It tastes Neapolitan. But it’s fundamentally different, as though he did DNA research on pizza and eliminated the gene that turns the crust wet. It’s the newest step forward in the evolution of the great American pizza crust, this one light and supple but retaining a smidgeon of crispness."

Three bells for Osteria Moorestown from Craig LaBan

By Hashtag on Feb 17 2014 Posted in: Vetri, Osteria, Alla Spina, Amis, Press, 0 comments Three bells for Osteria Moorestown from Craig LaBan

Philadelphia Inquirer restaurant critic Craig LaBan treked across the Delaware River to check out the new Osteria at Moorestown Mall, and mostly liked what he experienced. From his review:

"The Osteria concept is also flexible enough to suit a variety of occasions and budgets. Casual meal before a movie at the mall's newly rehabbed cinema? Share a thin-crusted pizza for less than $20 (the Margherita, prosciutto-topped Parma, or zucca with squash and golden raisins are my current favorites), followed by Osteria's vegetable antipasti platter (the best turnip and beet advertisement ever)."

Sausage Fest, January 29 at Amis

By Hashtag on Jan 29 2014 Posted in: Vetri, Osteria, Alla Spina, Amis, Press, 0 comments Sausage Fest, January 29 at Amis

The festivities will include a Yards tap takeover and as previously mentioned, a sausage eating contest. Zagat notes:

"Forget the crude cretins of Wing Bowl and get ready for an eating contest with real food pros. On Wednesday, January 29, Amis is holding an evening-long sausage fest. This bit of Restaurant Week counter-programming offers guests the chance to score three sausage-full courses for $19.99 per person, with $5 Yards beers available all night.

If you want entertainment along with your tasty meat, plan to be in the house at the 13th Street restaurant around 9:30 or 10 PM, when Spence and co. are hosting a covey of chefs for a sausage eating contest. Confirmed participants include Jennifer Carroll, Kevin Sbraga (Sbraga, The Fat Ham), Scott Schroeder (American Sardine Bar, South Philadelphia Tap Room), Jason Cichonski (Ela, The Gaslight), Brad Daniels (Osteria) and Lê of Hop Sing Laundromat."

Zagat on the craft beer focus of Alla Spina

By Hashtag on Jan 29 2014 Posted in: Vetri, Osteria, Alla Spina, Amis, Press, 0 comments Zagat on the craft beer focus of Alla Spina

(Photo: Danya Henninger)

In the article, Zagat praises Alla Spina's razor-sharp focus on both local and Italian craft beer, noting:

"Marc Vetri’s birreria is even more into beer than the Italian drink houses it’s fashioned after, pouring from more than 20 taps that feature brews both local - the house beer is made by Victory - and from overseas. The bottle and can list features nearly a hundred more options, including from Italy’s burgeoning craft scene, and a menu of pork-centric plates provides a perfect foil."

Philly.com on Marc Vetri’s class at Drexel: “That’s Professor Vetri, thank you”

(Photo: Michael Klein)

Marc Vetri has begun instructing CULA 400: Directed Studies with a Master Chef, a course at Drexel's Center For Hospitality & Sports Management. Michael Klein of philly.com visited a recent class session: "It's Vetri's Tuesday morning class in the Center for Hospitality & Sports Management's tricked-out kitchen on the sixth-floor of a building in University City. Vetri himself went to Drexel University in the late 1980s, studying marketing and finance; he was awarded an honorary doctorate last year. Unlike these young people, Vetri had no formal culinary education. He worked his way from apprentice and grunt in New York and Italy to the opening of his first restaurant, Vetri, in 1998 in Center City to creating a critically acclaimed empire: two branches of Osteria, Alla Spina, Amis, Pizzeria Vetri, and later this year, Lo Speido."
